Week 6 – The Splits

Category : Uncategorized

So, weird title, right? Both teams playing doubleheaders this week split, one win, one loss. That was my attempt at a pun, or something like that. Now, lets talk about the games before you stop reading.

Byrne Outs v. The Plague

These teams have alternated victories over the last three meetings with The Plague bettering the Byrne Outs two out of the three.  In one of the most competitive games played all season a scoreless tie went into the 3rd period. George Victory scored the lone goal and goalie Jason Devore took the hard luck 1 – 0 loss. At the other end Aaron Hipwell recorded his league leading 2nd shutout of the season.

Decapitators v. Byrne Outs

Byrne Outs were solid in the 3rd seed for the playoffs but the Decapitators could take the #1 overall seed if they won both games of their doubleheader. Led by another huge game by Walter Stepanenko (3 goals, 5 assists) Decapitators cruised to a 12 – 3 victory. Chad Hammond and Ryan Jones each had hat tricks. Newcomer Micah Siegmund found the back of the net twice in his ORHC debut.

GeriHattricks v. Decapitators

The showdown. The winner would take the season series and move on to be the top seed in the playoffs. Adam Barnett and Walter Stepanenko, the top two points leaders and goal scores battled it out. Barnett bested Stepanenko 3 goals to 2 as the ‘Hattricks took the season series by a score of 4 – 3. Caleb Smith (Decapitators) and Kelly Klancer (GeriHattricks) each dished out 2 assists a piece.
