Week 4 – Two Close Games

Category : Uncategorized

There were no double headers this week and the competition level was high.

The Plague v. Byrne Outs

After showing up with an army of skaters last week, The Plague had just 5 skaters. But they were facing a Byrne Outs team with only 5 skaters as well. Chris Hand opened the scoring for The Plague in this back-and-forth affair. A 2 – 2 tie was broken in the third period when a bouncing ball struck Steve Schuster and found the back of the net. Byrne Outs pull their goalie and kept the pressure on trying to find the equalizer. Captain Buzz Green iced the game with a full court empty net goal as The Plague skated to a 4 – 2 victory.

Decapitators v. GeriHattricks

If the first game wasn’t competitive enough game two featured the two teams at the top of the standings. This game didn’t disappoint. Neither team could hold a lead and the game ended regulation and overtime in a 5 – 5 tie. Even a four skater shootout couldn’t decide this one, it took six rounds. Tom Townsend buried his 6th round shot and Ryan Williamson stopped Caleb Smith’s last attempt to give the GeriHattricks the win and a lead in the standings. League scoring leader Adam Barnett had 2 goals and 3 assist.
