Fall Champions

Wednesday Night Ball League

Wednesday nights continued to be mild, free of rain (except for one week) and filled with hockey. The same three teams, with slightly different rosters played until it was almost too dark to see each week. The Plague, fresh with new scoring threats Adam Barnett and Will Gearheart stormed through the regular season, losing only one game. Facing the Bowhunters for the championship they successfully avenged their only regular season loss. Congratulations to The Plague.

Sunday Puck league had a bit more edge than Wednesdays. Rival Byrne Outs faced the Bowhunters in the first semi-final and tempers boiled over. A close game until the final moments Bowhunters squeaked out a 5 – 3 victory.

In the second semi-final Co-ORH-Directors faced off for a chance to reach the title game. This day belonged to Adam Barnett who netted 5 goals as FortyFour7Hockey.com cruised past the Gerihattricks and into the final.

Bowhunters however would take the championship outscoring FortyFour7Hockey.com in a 9 – 6 end-to-end shootout.

Congratulation to the Bowhunters.

Thank you to all the players who participated in ORH tournament and leagues this summer and fall. We have one last tournament scheduled for December 3. Hope to see everyone out one last time to close out the outdoor season.

Championship Weekend

Category : Uncategorized

Championship weekend was headlined by one predictable finish and one huge surprise.

The recreational division playoffs went as the regular season had gone. Mother Puckers defeated The Plague for the right to face Byrne Outs in the championship game. An exhausted Mother Pucker team fell in the final 3 – 0. Byrne Outs completed an outstanding season (only one loss) with their first league championship.

Competitive playoffs went off script according to regular season results. Bendy Bunch had a rough season of rotating goaltending and inconsistent attendance usually playing shorthanded. With a goalie and line up of 6 skaters this would be their weekend. Game one versus Bowhunters seemed to follow what had happened to them all season, give up too many goals early and find themselves too far behind to catch up. But they recovered in time to win in a shootout. The top seeded Tuttle Park All Stars were without their captain, Andrew Telfer and their starting goaltender, Nick Lane and it proved to be too much. Bendy Bunch took the game 5 – 2. They were just getting warmed up as they posted a shutout in a 9 – 0 championship game victory over FortyFour7Hockey.com.

Congratulations to both Byrne Outs and Bendy Bunch!

Thank you to all the teams and players who make this league possible!

Wednesday Night League Championship

Eskimo Bros. (1) v. Bowhunters (2)

Just as happened the week prior the Bowhunters were coming into a second game of a double header facing the rested Eskimo Bros. Early it looked as though the Bowhunters would have an advantage as Richard Moritz had a skate break leaving the Eskimo Bros. short handed in the first period. BuZz Green of The Plague kindly provided Richard a skate so he could return to the game. Richard made the most of his return scoring a hattrick, leading the Eskimo Bros. to a 7 – 2 victory. Brett Chaffin, Nathan Yellon and Nick Lane each added a goal and an assist.

Nick Lane ended the season as the scoring leader (27 points) and the assist leader (11 points) while Brian McIntyre took the goal scoring title (17 goals). Top goaltender honors go to Aaron Hipwell with 8 wins and a 3.00 goals against average.

Thank you to all who came out and played. Here are some photos from the Championship Game:

Bowhunters v. Eskimo Bros. – G.O.W. – Week 5

Category : Uncategorized

This week’s Game-Of-The-Week comes from the Wednesday Night Ball League. Undefeated Eskimo Bros. faced the Bowhunters in the finale of the regular season. Bowhunters were in the second game of a twin bill having just squeaked by Plague 4 – 3 in the first game of the evening. After the first period it looked as if Eskimo Bros. were going to finish the season with an unblemished record as they had a 3 – 1 advantage. Five goals later the Bowhunters had a dominate 6 – 3 lead and held on for a 7 – 5 victory. Brian McIntyre had a hattrick as part of the 5 goal outburst that put Bowhunters ahead.

Next week is playoffs for the Wednesday Night Ball League and here is the schedule:

Mother Puckers v. Byrne Outs – G.O.W – Week 4

Category : Uncategorized

This week’s G.O.W. matches up a team that is brand new to the league (Mother Puckers) with a veteran team (Byrne Outs) who has been around since the start of ORH. Byrne Outs have been rolling through recreational division, while Mother Puckers have had their struggles. The game proved to be very competitive due to some early highlight reel saves by Isaac Lightle. But a pair of hattricks by Byrne Out goal scorers George Victory and Trevor DeWoody would ultimately be the difference in an 8 – 5 Byrne Out win.

In other new, Ryan Williamson, had 5 goals in the FortyFour7Hockey.com win over Bowhunters. He was convinced that was an ORH record. Sorry to break it to you Ryan, that record is 6 goals held by Jake Howell (Kangabrews) and Caleb Smith (Bowhunters). An impressive game, but not a record.
