The Heat is ON

Category : Uncategorized

Summer let us know that it was still here with 90+ degree heat for Week 2. Two teams would have to endure doubleheaders battling not only two opposing teams but also the temperature.

GeriHattricks v. Decapitators

The only blemish on Decapitators regular season last session was a 3-1 loss at the hands of the GeriHattricks. That would not be the result today. Going into the 3rd period with a tie score at 4 a piece, Decapitators took control. Two final frame goals capped off the victory 6-4.

Byrne Outs v. GeriHattricks

GeriHattricks were on game two of their twin bill while Byrne Outs were fresh for their first their of two match ups. The score ended 6-2 but it was much closer than the final count. Brad Mehl had a hatty and Adam Barnett buried 2 and helped on another to lead the ‘Hattricks to victory.

The Plague v. Byrne Outs

While Byrne Outs were on their second game The Plague was short handed with only 4 skaters. Needless to say the pace to this game was a little slower than usual. Trevor DeWoody had the first two goals of the game for Byrne Outs and that proved to be enough as Aaron Hipwell stopped every Plague shot he saw. Byrne Outs 4, The Plague 0.

Summer Session #2 Has Started!

Category : Uncategorized

As the title suggests, another great season of Ohio Roller Hockey has begun. Here is what happened this week (August 21).

Decapitators v. Byrne Outs

Both of these teams exited the playoffs with some level of disappointment. Byrne Outs were ousted in the first round by The Plague while Decapitators were on the wrong end of a 10-4 Championship Game loss. Chad Hammond had the Decapitators looking good early with a 4-0 lead only to see Byrne Outs thunder back to take a tightly contested 7-5 victory. Five of the seven skaters for Byrne Outs had a goal in a balanced scoring attack.

GeriHattrick v. The Plague

Following their trend, GeriHattricks took a lead into the 3rd period only to see it disappear. An upgraded Plague team led by Wes Christ (with 3 goals) took a one goal advantage to the final minute. Just as the GeriHattricks goalie was being called off for an extra skater, Adam Barnett found the equalizer to force the first overtime game in ORH history. A shootout was not in the cards as Cary Smith buried the game winner with less than a minute left in OT.

PLAYOFFS!

Category : Uncategorized

After 7 weeks of play we have arrived at playoff time!

Game 1: Byrne Outs (4) v The Plague (5)

The Plague had lost both regular season match ups with Byrne Outs. Byrne Outs were coming in having won their last two games. An absent goalie, with no sub goalie available meant a certain exit for The Plague. That is why we play the games. The Plague pulled off the unthinkable, winning 4 – 3 with 5 skaters (and no goalie). Four different players tallied goals for The Plague while Trevor Dewoody had a hattrick for the Byrne Outs.

Plague D Game 1

Game 2: Decapitators (1) v The Plague (5)

Chad Hammond and the Decapitators took advantage of their seed. They were fresh while The Plague played the second game of a back-to-back. The before mentioned Chad Hammond led the way with three goals and a helper as the Decapitators cruised to victory.

Chad Game 2

Game 3: Tuttle Park (2) v GeriHattricks (3)

A super competitive game saw both teams hold a 2 goal lead during the game. This game had a little bit of everything, a controversial high stick goal, a disallowed goal and a game winner with less than 2 minutes left in the third. While the GeriHattricks had balanced scoring, Andrew Telfer and Ryan Bruback put up 3 goals a piece to lead the All-Stars to victory.

Championship: Decapitators (1) v Tuttle Park (2)

With two regular season victories over Tuttle Park and 8 straight victories the Decapitators were the odds-on-favorite heading into the Championship game. However, two key pieces of their team were missing with top goal scorer Walter Stepanenko and goaltender Caleb Smith absent. Andrew Telfer, in his last roller hockey game before surgery, seemed determined to take home the Championship. Matt Hannon helped him with that task, scoring three goals and adding two assists. The Tuttle Park All-Stars lived up to their name taking control early and finishing with a convincing 10 – 4 victory.

Congratulations to the Tuttle Park All-Stars!

Thank you to all the players. You are the reason we do this, without you this league does not exist. We look forward to having everyone back next session.
